Yoga is much more than a physical practice. It is a science, backed by an ancient philosophy called Vedanta. Vedanta (yoga philosophy) originated in Himalayas over 10,000 years ago and presents the higher values and eternal principles of life and living. These values create inner peace and tranquility, coupled with boundless energy—a combination that promotes mental health, happiness and physical wellbeing.
Meredith Forder is a Vedanta philosopher, teacher and practitioner, who has spent many years living and studying Vedanta in India, under world-renowned spiritual master Swami Parthasarathy. Today Meredith offers talks and workshops to schools, universities, yoga schools and organisations.
Some practical topics are listed below. More topics are available and can be tailored to suit your organisation’s individual needs. If you would like to have a talk presented at your school or organisation, please contact Flavia Giardino on 0424 393 417 or email@example.com.
The 3 Yogas
What distracts us from inner peace and contentment is our ego and expectations. The practice of the 3 Yogas reduces ego and quietens the mind by offloading expectations and other mental baggage. As a result you become calm and composed, even in difficult situations—enabling you to handle life’s challenges with ease.
The mind causes tremendous suffering, like fear, anger, worry, anxiety, stress and depression. Yet, within us all we have an incredible faculty that needs to be awakened and developed. Once it is strengthened not only do we gain perfect control over our mind, we become purposeful, peaceful and productive in life.
Love & Detachment
Detachment is a word that sends shudders down our spines, because it’s misunderstood as a loveless and joyless quality. However, nothing could be further from the truth. Detachment is a beautiful quality, full of love, joy, peace and contentment. It manifests when we disconnect from ego and connect with who we really are.
What’s My Purpose?
When we are born, we come into the world with natural tendencies and inclinations, which make us who we are. However, as we grow we are influenced by the world around us and become someone we’re not. Understanding our purpose will help peel away the layers of conformity, to reveal your authentic Self within.
The Law of Karma
The law of karma states that you are a product of your past and a producer of your future. You are the architect of your fortune and your misfortune. You alone are responsible for everything that happens in your life—good or bad. Understanding this law empowers you to take control and create a better future.
Just Be Yourself
The one thing that holds us back and prevents us from being who we really are is our ego. Ego is our false self, which manifests as a feeling of superiority or inferiority. Our real self is neither inferior or superior. By disconnecting from ego and connecting with who we really are, our life becomes rich and full of peace and contentment.
